Inside NAEP
Dig deeper into data and questions with powerful tools

NAEP web tools are powerful and now even easier to use!

Learn about these tools using Quick Reference Guides and tutorials:

The Questions Tool lets you find, sort, and print NAEP questions. Go to Explore NAEP Questions and click “See video preview” in the large Questions Tool button, and also explore the short tutorial lessons using the Tutorial button on the Questions Search page

Item Maps show you what students know and can do at each achievement level. They are accessed by clicking the large Item Maps button in the Explore NAEP Questions portal, and are easy to use if you print the Item Maps Quick Reference Guide from the NAEP Website Tools and Applications page.

State Comparisons lets you compare state performance by various demographic groups. It is versatile and easy for new users who consult the Quick Reference Guide linked from the State Comparisons start page. You'll find the link to State Comparisons at State Profiles.

The Data Explorer helps you analyze data and create tables and graphs. Go to the Data Explorer and click the link for the Quick Reference Guide to get an overview, then click "view the tutorial" for short lessons on all aspects of this tool.

For a one-stop portal for tools, quick guides, and basic tables, see Data Tools on the Nation's Report Card website.
