Field TestEach year, NAEP conducts a field test to evaluate assessment items, materials, and procedures in preparation for the next year's assessment. Because the field test was conducted as a part of the national main assessment in 2000 and 2001, the procedures used for the field test were the same as those used for the assessment. However, schools selected for the field test did not participate in the national main or state assessments. If schools opted not to participate, NAEP field supervisors were allowed to use substitute schools from the district. 2000 Field TestIn preparation for the 2001 national main assessment, a field test was conducted January 3 through February 11, 2000. The purpose of this field test was to try out new assessment items and materials. Students in grades 4, 8, and 12 were assessed in two subject areas—geography and U.S. history. The items replaced items released publicly after the previous assessments in these subjects. 2001 Field TestIn preparation for the 2002 national main assessment, a field test was conducted January 2 through March 23, 2001. The purpose of this field test was to try out new assessment items, materials, and procedures. Students in grades 4, 8, and 12 were assessed in two subject areas—reading and writing. The items tested replaced items released after the previous assessments of reading and writing. Students were randomly selected in a portion of the national main NAEP schools. Some students received a reading booklet, and some students received a writing booklet. Last updated 08 May 2008 (MH) |
