To search for questions, follow Steps 1 and 2 on-screen and select an option from each category. Click on the information symbol
to learn about item difficulty determination, important aspects of the framework used, and other information about a category.
Step 1. Choose Assessment Type, either main or long-term trend. Of the two test types, main NAEP assessments are administered in a variety of academic subjects, while long-term trend results are available in reading and mathematics.
Step 2. Select the Basic Criteria:
one subject,
one or more grades,
and one or more years (if shown as available).
At this point, you can click Show Results to see the all questions meeting the basic criteria.
Step 3. Optional: To refine or limit your search, choose options within Advanced Criteria, which appear only after choices are complete in Steps 1 and 2. An example of advanced criteria you can specify are (after choosing Assessment-Main and Subject-Reading):
Content Area—Breaks the subject down by subtopics;
Cognitive Domain—Separates the questions by type of thinking activity;
Difficulty—Presents the choice of easy, medium, or hard questions. The questions are grouped according to student performance. Multiple-choice or constructed-response questions that are scored either right or wrong are rated “easy” if answered correctly by 60 percent or more of students, “medium” if answered correctly by 40 to 59 percent, or “hard” if answered correctly by fewer than 40 percent; and
Type—Divides the questions by answer type, either multiple choice, short constructed response, or extended constructed response.
Other criteria will display depending on assessment type, subject, and grade. Select the small plus sign to open the choices underneath a subcategory.
