Theatre Performance Task Scoring Guides

The following scoring criteria are for a task called Camping, in which four students create an improvisation. Notice how students were given both individual scores and group scores.

Individual Scoring Guides

Students are scored on the following:

• the degree to which an individual student's performance demonstrates spatial awareness;
• the degree to which an individual student's vocal production is intelligible and audible;
• the degree to which an individual student's performance demonstrates an ability to concentrate and remain focused in an improvised scene;
• the degree to which an individual student's performance demonstrates an ability to deal with his/her character's objective effectively;
• the degree to which an individual student's performance demonstrates an ability to establish a character in terms of temperament, age, physical qualities, and/or personality traits in an improvised scene; and
• the degree to which an individual student successfully combines the use of improvised dialogue, physical action, and expression of emotion in his/her performance to communicate meaning to an audience.

Group Scoring Guide

Students were scored on:

• the degree to which a group's performance demonstrates a sense of ensemble, listening and responding to one another appropriately and effectively.
