The data are supplied by state education agency officials and include information that describes schools and school districts, including name, address, and phone number; descriptive information about students and staff, including demographics; and fiscal data, including revenues and current expenditures.

Highlights
How are our nation's public elementary and secondary schools configured in terms of grade range? How is the number of students distributed among the various configurations? Newly produced by NCES using school year 2005-2006 CCD data, the two data tables present the number of regular publc schools with membership and number of students in these schools in the 50 states and D.C. in each of the different combinations of lowest and highest grades offered.
New Classificatory Scheme for Identification of Rural Locale Codes"Locale codes" are derived from a classification system originally developed by NCES in the 1980's to describe a school's location ranging from "large city" to "rural."
